The Cary Park District’s Kraus Senior Center, 441 W. Main Street, offers a wide variety of low-cost programs, events and trips for seniors. Senior Center hours are 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For more information about the events and programs at the Senior Center call 847-639-8118. Come in for a cup o’ Joe, meet your friends and catch up before the activities begin. Coffee and hot tea will be out and ready in the main room of the Senior Center. Join us Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30-10:00 am.
Open Game Day
Play your favorite board games, card games, word searches or crossword puzzles with your friends on Tuesday, September 3 beginning at 11:00 am.
Enjoy cookie decorating with a local professional cookie decorator on Thursday, September 5, from 9:30-10:30 am at the Kraus Senior Center. Cost is $6 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Registration is required to attend.
Lunch Bunch Crew
Share your wisdom over lunch with Juniors and Seniors from Cary-Grove High School’s Athletic, Music, Academic and Service groups. Students join you for lunch at the Senior Center and enjoy your company. Held Tuesday, September 10 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
Open House and Trivia Contest
Stop by and join the fun as we show off our amazing Kraus Senior Center. Encourage your friends, neighbors and family to be a part of the fun as well. Enjoy activities throughout the day and plenty of coffee and refreshments. Sign up for new committees and share your ideas for new activities, events and trips. Answer trivia for prizes starting at 12:30 pm. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.
Royal Oak Farm Apple Orchard
Spend a beautiful fall day in the country in Harvard enjoying a narrated tractor drawn wagon tour of the orchard and learning the history of the orchard, the important role that bees play in the orchard and about the 29 varieties of apples that are grown there. Explore the Country Store Market, the Royal Oak Bakery and the Sweet Shop. Dine on a self-pay lunch in the buffet style Country Restaurant which offers made-from-scratch hot entrees, salads, sandwiches, and their famous pies and desserts. Registration fee includes transportation by Park District bus and the wagon tour. This event is held on Thursday, September 12 from 9:00 am–2:30 pm. Cost is $12 for residents and $14 for non-residents. Registration deadline is September 5.
Souper Duper Friday
Join us for a FREE bowl of soup and a slice of bread on the second Friday of the month. Soup will be served at 11:00 am on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. Our next Souper Duper Friday will be Friday, September 13.
Arlington International Racecourse Trip
We hit a trifecta with this trip! Horse racing, gorgeous grounds at Arlington International Racecourse and fantastic food. It’s a winning combination. Travel by Park District bus to Arlington International Racecourse, take a tour and meet the horses. Afterwards, dine in the Million Room with a spectacular view of the finish and enjoy a three course meal of an appetizer, main course and dessert. This event is held on Thursday, September 19 from 10:30 am–4:00 pm. Cost is $40 for residents and $43 for non-residents. Registration deadline is September 13.
Lunch Out Group
Enjoy an afternoon of food and fellowship as the “Lunch Out Group” travels to Kief’s Reef in McHenry on Tuesday, September 24. Transportation departs from the Park District Community Center at 11:15 am and returns at approximately 2:00 pm. Meals are off the menu and self-pay. Transportation fee is $5 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Registration deadline is one week in advance of the event date and refunds will not be issued after the deadline.
Raise a glass of beer (root beer that is), eat pretzels and enjoy a lively Oktoberfest event on Friday, September 27 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Cary Park District Community Center, 255 Briargate Road. Enjoy a lunch of bratwurst with sauerkraut, warm German potato salad, cucumber sour cream salad, rye bread and apple pie. Cost is $11 for residents and $12 for non-residents. The registration deadline is September 19.
