A beginner friendly series designed for true beginners! This interactive, hands on series will take you from identifying tiles and navigating the official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card, to learning the passing sequence (the Charleston) and building hands in a supportive and fun atmosphere. The last class will allow for supervised game play. Teaching aids and practice sets are provided. All participants will receive an official 2026 NMJL Card to take home. ($15 value)

Develop your child’s intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. We’re headed to the Marriott for a lively musical performance as Brandon Bennett brings the hit songs of Garth Brooks to the stage. With an engaging style and down-to-earth charm, he captures the spirit of one of country music’s most beloved artists. We will enjoy a self-pay lunch at a local restaurant prior to the show. Then, sing along to favorites like “Friends in Low Places,” “The Dance,” “Shameless,” and “Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House” in this fun and entertaining performance. Transportation is by Park District Bus. Registration Deadline is August 18 and refunds will not be issued after the deadline.

Lace up your walking shoes and join your friends for a walk through some of Cary Park District’s greatest spots. All levels are welcome. We meet on various Wednesdays each month. Club will only meet based on favorable weather conditions. Starting time is 10:30am and we will walk for about 1 hour. Walking is self-paced and self-led.

Originating in China, Tai Chi is a low impact, mind-body exercise that consists of slow, flowing movements, controlled breathing, and focused intent. Sometimes referred to as “meditation in motion”, benefits of the practice include balance, strength, flexibility, and improved cardiovascular health. The class will end with a relaxing focused practice with verbal guidance and imaging, sending participants away with a positive and relaxed vibe. This is a beginner level class. The Unlimited Fitness Passes can be used for this class. Walk-in and Punch card users are welcome, but space priority will go to those enrolled.

As they chop, stir, measure, grill and cook their own after school snacks and treats, students will learn essential cooking skills, nutrition fundamentals, and the importance of kitchen safety. Our innovative approach to coding is sure to spark your child’s interest in computer science, using a simple, relatable, block-based programming system called Scratch, developed by the MIT Media Lab.
