Recreation Program Manager (Year Round/Full Time)
The Recreation Program Manager is responsible for the administration, organization and management of programs in the Recreation Department with emphasis in school-age Day Camp, Performing Arts (Dance, Art, Music, Theatre, Culinary), Youth General Interest, Tweens/Teens and Adult General Interest.

Position requires energetic and creative individual who possess outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to work varying hours to meet program, special event and facility needs and perform the physical demands of the position. Other required tasks, duties and responsibilities include planning, customer service, public relations, safety & risk management, personnel, financial and facility management. A detailed job description is available on request.

Minimum requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation or Leisure Services Administration or related field with a minimum of 1 year full time experience in the field. CPR/AED certification and a valid driver’s license are required. Individuals who have achieved Certified Recreation and Park Administration status are preferred.

Park Specialist (Year Round/Full Time)
Responsible for assisting with the daily management of park maintenance operations for all park sites. The essential job functions include landscape maintenance, mowing, special projects, snow removal, trash collection, controlled burns, and other tasks as assigned. Supervision of a seasonal work crew and volunteers will be assigned throughout the year. Some weekend and/or overtime hours may be assigned.

The position requires a high school diploma, associates degree preferred. Certifications in parks maintenance or related areas desireable. The position requires a minimum of one (1) year related full-time experience. Ability to obtain a State of Illinois Class B CDL driver's license with air brake endorsement and Illinois Department of Agriculture pesticide license 90 days after employement is required.

Marketing & Communications Support (Part Time - Summer Seasonal)
Responsible for photography and video of Park District parks, facilities, recreation programs and special events. Working knowledge of digital cameras, phtography concepts, and ability to take quality photographs, and the skills to edit photos. Other duties may be assigned.

Ability to work 10 - 20 hours a week (June - August) with the ability to have a flexible schedule that may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and the occassional weekend. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and have reliable transportation and a valid Illinois Driver's License.

Park Maintenance (Summer Seasonal)
Responsible for general maintenance, cleanliness, assisting with construction projects, janitorial responsibilities, mowing, trimming, equipment maintenance, and preventive maintenance program within the facilities and park system. Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Prior experience in horticulture,
equipment maintenance, and/or construction is preferred. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) regularly and effectively with coworkers and patrons. All applicants need to have a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Must be at least 18 years old.

Recreational Program Instructors
The Cary Park District is looking for local "hidden talent" to instruct or lead various recreational programs. We are recruiting new instructors with creative ideas. If you have a particular skill or are interested in leading activities, please contact Sara Kelly, Superintendent of Recreation at 847.639.6100 x 109 or skelly@carypark.com. You may also complete a Program Proposal Form and fax it to Sara at 847.639.6290.

 

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Piano Player (Volunteer)
The Cary Park District is seeking a piano player for the Senior Center Glee Club. The Glee Club meets weekly on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Senior Center. The Club also performs at local nursing homes on the second Tuesday of each month. Interested persons should contact Jayne Anderson, Senior Coordinator at 847.639.8118.
