Dear Cary Park District Residents,
Golf season is in full swing, and I wanted to take a moment to highlight the outstanding success that the Cary Park District has experienced at Foxford Hills Golf Club. This facility has been a tremendous asset for the community and will continue to provide exceptional golf opportunities.
The Park District acquired the golf course in 2004 without the use of taxes, or asking for an increase in your tax dollars. That statement holds true today as we enter our fifth season of operation. Consider the following:
1. Foxford Hills Golf Club pays 100% of its debt service, as well as the
payment on about $200,000 of Park District capital debt.
2. Foxford Hills Golf Club pays 100% of its operating expenses, as well as
subsidizing about $25,000 of Park District operating expenses.
3. The Golf Course pays 100% of its depreciation expenses, approximately $80,000/year, and pays for its own equipment replacement
and other capital improvements.
4. The Golf Course has already repaid the startup operating loan of
approximately $178,000 used in its first four months of operation when
there was no incoming revenue.
5. Foxford Hills Golf Club has never had a “losing” year of operation,
netting between $25,000-$135,000 in its first four years of operation
under the Park District.
6. Foxford Hills Golf Club continues to perform better than the local
market in increasing or maintaining rounds played, while keeping the
course in outstanding condition. In just four years, Foxford Hills Golf
Club averages approximately 27,000 rounds of golf.
7. The Golf Course Clubhouse is used throughout the year, hosting
events and activities for the community to enjoy in the off-season.
Seniors have used it for luncheons, teens have used it for social
events, and Santa even made a visit this past winter!
8. The Park District recognizes that every outdoor activity and leisure
time sport is dependent on the weather conditions and economics. That is why it continues to build a cash reserve in the golf course
fund to offset any future potential downturn or bad season.
9. Foxford Hills Golf Club is considered one of the premier golf courses
in the Chicagoland area, and rates a “must play” by several golf
publications.
And you are a proud stakeholder in this facility!
So get out this summer and try out the driving range (now open for night use), introduce your kids to golf, take a lesson or two, and book your tee time early and often at this outstanding course.
Enjoy your Park District all year long!
